New Release!

The 2016 Bench 1775 Syrah was co-fermented with 1.6% Viognier and was harvested from our vineyard in Osoyoos. The 2016 Syrah has a savory, meaty, dark fruit nose with hints of olives, white pepper and coffee. The palate is a fine expression of South Okanagan fruit with characters of savory dark cherry, blueberry and light herbal. The wine was aged in 30% new French oak for 10 months.

Pair this savory Syrah with roast leg of lamb, Ratatouille, Osso Bucco, Veggie burgers, grilled eggplant and hard cheeses like aged Goulda.

Tasting Notes

The 2016 Syrah has a savory, meaty, dark fruit nose with hints of olives, white pepper and coffee. The palate is a fine expression of South Okanagan fruit with characters of savory dark cher-ry, blueberry and light herbal. The wine was aged in 30% new French oak for 10 months.

Region: West Bench Osoyoos, Okanagan Valley. Soil Type: Gravel, glacial till. Age of Vines: 10 Years.
Production Notes
98.6% Syrah, 1.6% Viognier
Winemaker Notes
My preference as winemaker is to pick Syrah in the earlier ripening expression with red fruit and white pepper, but 2016 was a much hotter year so the fruit expression for tannin phenological ripeness was much more pronounced in black fruit notes. More black pepper than white pepper, this wine was aged in 30% new French oak for 10 months to match the riper fruit expression, and then aged in bottle for an additional 3 years to fully develop the flavours and tannins.
